Overview
What is the Orange Money API?
Boldrails is a licensed payment provider, and the Orange Money API is how businesses accept and send Orange Money payments in code. Orange publishes a Web Payment API on its developer portal, but access is per country, gated behind merchant approval, and limited to a single rail. Each market is a separate portal and a separate contract, so a business selling in Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal wires Orange twice.
We remove that fragmentation. You integrate with Boldrails once and accept Orange Money across every market we cover, alongside Wave, Moov Money and MTN MoMo, with payouts and reconciliation handled underneath. We acquire and settle these payments directly as a licensed principal, not as a broker. Mobile money and e-money across the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) are supervised by the BCEAO, the framework we operate within.
Payment flows
Collections and payouts the Orange Money API supports
One integration covers both directions of money. You collect from customers who pay with Orange Money, and you send funds out to Orange Money wallets. Here is how the core flows split by direction.
| Flow | Direction | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Collection (cash-in / encaissement) | Customer pays you | One payment-request call returns a hosted checkout or Orange Money redirect; the customer confirms with their PIN or a one-time code, and we confirm the result to you. |
| Payout (cash-out / décaissement) | You pay a wallet | Send funds to Orange Money wallets one at a time or as mass batches: payroll, refunds, supplier and commission payments. |
| Merchant payment (paiement marchand) | Customer pays a merchant | Accept in-store and in-app merchant payments against your Boldrails merchant account, reconciled with your online sales. |
| QR and USSD initiation | Customer confirms | Customers scan a QR code or confirm through the Orange Money USSD menu, so buyers without a smartphone can still pay. |
| Webhook and callback status | We notify you | Every pay-in and payout posts a signed webhook with its final status, so your system never has to poll for the result. |
Boldrails exposes all of this through one API and one set of credentials, across every Orange Money market we cover. Collections and payouts run through the same integration, and we settle to you in XOF, XAF or crypto.
Integration
How to integrate Orange Money through Boldrails
For developers, going live with Orange Money through Boldrails takes five steps. You call one endpoint set, and we manage the rails underneath.
- 1
Tell us your rails and countries
Confirm the wallets you need (Orange Money, Wave, Moov Money, MTN MoMo) and the markets you sell in. We scope one integration to cover them.
- 2
Complete KYB onboarding once
Submit your business documents (RCCM or registre de commerce and tax registration). One approved Boldrails merchant account replaces a separate Orange contract per country.
- 3
Get your API credentials and sandbox
Pull your live and test keys from the dashboard, and run pay-ins and payouts end to end against the sandbox before touching real money.
- 4
Call collections and payouts, and listen for webhooks
Create a payment request in XOF or XAF with the method set to Orange Money, then receive the signed webhook that confirms the result. The same endpoints send payouts to wallets.
- 5
Settle in XOF or crypto
Choose fiat or crypto settlement. We reconcile every transaction so your finance team is not matching statements by hand.
There is no per-operator fixed-IP prerequisite, no systems audit, and no country-by-country subscription: one KYB clears the whole stack. Onboarding takes 3 to 14 days, depending on your case.
Comparison
Boldrails vs the operator API: one integration across rails
Orange's own Web Payment API works, but it is per country and merchant-gated: you subscribe market by market and run a separate integration for each. Requirements and product availability vary by country and operator entity. A single-rail gateway removes some wiring but still leaves you managing one rail at a time. We give you every Orange Money market and every major wallet through one licensed integration.
Regional aggregators such as CinetPay and PayDunya resell Orange Money, Wave, Moov Money and MTN MoMo through one API, but they act as general-merchant intermediaries and settle in local currency only. Boldrails acquires directly as a licensed principal, adds mass payouts and high-risk acceptance, and settles in XOF or crypto.
| Capability | Orange operator portal | Single-rail gateway | Boldrails |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rails via one integration | Orange only | One rail each | Orange, Wave, Moov and MTN MoMo in one |
| Collections | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Payouts | Limited, per product | Varies | Yes, single and mass |
| Countries | One portal per country | Per country | West Africa in one contract |
| Settlement currency | XOF | XOF | XOF or crypto |
| Merchant gating | Fixed IP, systems check, subscription | Varies | One KYB onboarding, 3 to 14 days |
| Provider stance | Telco operator | Operator | Licensed principal |
| High-risk acceptance | No | No | Yes |
Coverage and settlement
Coverage and settlement (fiat XOF or crypto)
Orange Money runs in two currency zones, and it matters for where your money lands. In WAEMU, the currency is the West African CFA franc (XOF), issued under the BCEAO. Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin and Mali all settle in XOF. Cameroon is different: it sits in CEMAC, uses the Central African CFA franc (XAF) under the BEAC, and never settles in XOF.
We collect and pay out across both zones through one integration, and settle to you in fiat or crypto. Orange Money availability, collections and payouts can differ by country and operator entity, so we confirm exact coverage for your markets at onboarding. The same integration that accepts Orange Money also covers Wave, Moov Money and MTN MoMo, so you turn rails on as you need them.
| Settlement | Zone and type | Use case |
|---|---|---|
| XOF bank settlement | WAEMU (BCEAO), fiat | Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali |
| XAF bank settlement | CEMAC (BEAC), fiat | Cameroon |
| Crypto and stablecoin | On-chain (USDT, USDC) | Cross-border treasury and fast payouts |

Pricing
Orange Money API pricing (fees)
Accepting Orange Money carries two cost layers: the operator's own fee on the rail, and the gateway fee for acquiring, settling and reconciling the transaction. Your effective rate depends on the rails you use, your monthly volume, your settlement currency, and your risk profile. There is no public price card for the operator API path: Orange's merchant access is quote-gated and granted per approved merchant.
| Provider | Pricing model |
|---|---|
| Orange Money operator API | On request; merchant-gated subscription |
| Boldrails | Custom, by volume, rails and risk |
We price by volume, rails and risk, and the quote includes fiat-or-crypto settlement and multi-rail routing across Orange Money, Wave, Moov Money and MTN MoMo. Request exact pricing through the Get started form.
