Moov Money API integration
Boldrails is a licensed payment gateway that delivers Moov Money (Moov Africa) mobile money collections and payouts through one API. Moov Money has no easy public merchant API, so businesses reach it through an aggregator or a licensed gateway. We acquire and settle in XOF or crypto across West Africa. Onboarding takes 3 to 14 days, depending on your case.

Overview
What is the Moov Money API?
Moov Money is the mobile money wallet from Moov Africa, a major rail across the WAEMU zone (also called UEMOA), with strong reach in Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo and Mali. It runs in XOF, the West African CFA franc. Do not confuse it with Moov Financial (moov.io), a separate United States money-movement and ACH platform: the two share a name but nothing else. This page covers Moov Money mobile money in West Africa.
Unlike some rails, Moov Africa does not publish a simple public merchant API you can sign up for and self-serve. There is no official self-serve Moov merchant portal at all: the most visible "Moov Money API" online is a community-built PHP SDK on GitHub that wraps a private SOAP endpoint, not an official Moov product. In practice, every production integration runs through an aggregator that holds an operator contract, or through a licensed gateway that already holds the acquiring relationship. Boldrails is that licensed gateway. We acquire and settle Moov Money directly, so you integrate once and accept it across every market we cover, alongside Orange Money, Wave and MTN MoMo. Mobile money and e-money in WAEMU are supervised by the BCEAO.
Payment flows
How Moov Money moves: collections and payouts
One integration covers both directions of money. You collect from customers who pay with Moov Money, and you send funds out to Moov Money wallets. Here is how the core flows split by direction:
| Flow | Direction | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Collections (Green Pay) | You request, customer pays | You create a payment request in XOF and the customer confirms with a Moov Money USSD Push prompt or their PIN. Moov's own name for merchant collections is Green Pay. |
| Confirmation webhook | Rail notifies you | Moov sends the transaction result to a signed webhook (for example HMAC-SHA256), so your server confirms each payment instead of polling. |
| Payouts and mass payouts | You pay out | Disburse to Moov Money wallets one by one or in mass batches for payroll, refunds and suppliers. Moov calls this paiement en masse; the wallet transfer runs over its Flooz brand (transferFlooz). |
Put together, the flow is simple: you create a payment request, the customer confirms through Moov Money USSD Push, a signed webhook (HMAC-SHA256) tells your server the result, and Boldrails settles the money to you in XOF or crypto. Collections and payouts run through the same API and one set of credentials, across every Moov Money market we cover.
Integration
How to integrate the Moov Money API
For developers, accepting Moov Money through a licensed gateway takes six steps. With Boldrails you call one endpoint and we manage the rest.
- 1
Get approved and complete KYB
Apply and pass know-your-business checks with your registre de commerce (RCCM) and tax registration. Onboarding takes 3 to 14 days, depending on your case, and you need an approved merchant account before you go live.
- 2
Generate your API keys
Get your live and test API keys from the dashboard. Keep test and live keys separate so sandbox traffic never touches real money.
- 3
Create a payment request
Call the payment-request endpoint with the amount in XOF and the method set to Moov Money. The API returns a hosted checkout URL or a payment token for the customer.
- 4
Register and verify a webhook
Point a webhook endpoint at your server to receive the payment result, and verify each signature (for example HMAC-SHA256). Do not rely on polling in production.
- 5
Test in the sandbox
Run collections and payouts end to end with your test keys before you switch anything to live.
- 6
Go live
Switch your keys and base URL to production, or let Boldrails manage tokens, callbacks, retries and reconciliation across Moov Money, Orange Money, Wave and MTN MoMo.
One Boldrails integration replaces the per-market aggregator wiring above and adds payouts, settlement and the wider West African rail stack. You do not chase a separate Moov Money contract or aggregator for each country.
Comparison
Boldrails vs reaching Moov Money on your own
Because Moov Money has no easy public merchant API, most businesses reach it one of two ways: through an aggregator that resells access across operators, or through a licensed gateway that acquires directly and adds a managed layer for the wiring, retries and reconciliation.
Regional aggregators such as CinetPay, PayDunya, YengaPay, GeniusPay, Bizao and FedaPay cover Moov Money alongside other wallets through one API, and many do it well. Most are general-merchant and settle in local currency only. Boldrails is a licensed principal: we acquire and settle Moov Money ourselves rather than resell it, and we add high-risk acceptance, mass payouts, and settlement in fiat or crypto on one integration.
| Capability | Direct Moov access | Typical aggregator | Boldrails |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct access | No public merchant API | Resold via operator contract | Licensed, direct |
| Country coverage | Per operator | Several, one API | All markets we cover, one API |
| Collections + payouts | Collections only | Both | Both, one API |
| Mass payouts | Manual | Limited | Single and batch |
| Onboarding and contracts | Per-operator contract | Aggregator onboarding | One KYB, 3 to 14 days |
| Settlement | XOF | Local currency | XOF or crypto |
| Other rails | Moov only | Mobile money and cards | Moov, Orange Money, Wave, MTN MoMo, cards |
| High-risk acceptance | No | General merchant | Forex, crypto, licensed iGaming |
Coverage and settlement
Moov Money plus the rest of the West African stack
You collect and pay out in XOF through Moov Money, and Boldrails settles to you in fiat or crypto, your choice. XOF is the West African CFA franc used across the eight WAEMU (UEMOA) countries, including Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo and Mali. The same integration that accepts Moov Money also covers Orange Money, Wave and MTN MoMo, plus cards and bank transfer, so you integrate once and switch rails on as you need them. When you prefer crypto, we settle in USDT or USDC.
| Method | Type | Use case |
|---|---|---|
| Moov Money | Mobile money | Strong across Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Togo |
| Orange Money | Mobile money | Leading wallet across francophone Africa |
| Wave | Mobile money | Low-cost wallet in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire |
| MTN MoMo | Mobile money | Major rail in Côte d'Ivoire |
| Cards (Visa/Mastercard) | Card | Local and international cards |
| Bank transfer | Bank rail | UEMOA and international |
| USDT and USDC | Crypto | Settle in stablecoins instead of fiat |

Pricing
How much does the Moov Money API cost?
There is no API subscription to accept Moov Money through a gateway; you pay a processing fee per transaction. Merchant pricing for Moov Money and the other West African wallets is set per operator and per contract, so it is quoted rather than published as a public rate card. Boldrails prices custom, by volume and risk.
| Method | Fee basis |
|---|---|
| Moov Money | Quote-based, varies by operator and contract |
| Orange Money | Quote-based, varies by operator and contract |
| Wave | Quote-based, varies by operator and contract |
| MTN MoMo | Quote-based, varies by operator and contract |
| Cards (Visa/Mastercard) | Quote-based, varies by scheme and risk |
| Boldrails | Custom, by volume and risk |
This table shows how each fee is set, not a public rate card. Across the field, merchant pricing for Moov Money and the other wallets is quoted per operator and contract, so we do not publish a fixed number we cannot source. For reference, Moov's own Green Pay product lists a 0 FCFA fee on the consumer side, which is not a merchant rate. Your Boldrails quote includes fiat-or-crypto settlement and multi-rail routing across Moov Money, Orange Money, Wave and MTN MoMo. Request exact pricing through the Get started form.
